Work Towards Furthering Education
After his graduation from Emory College in 1891, President W. A. Candler of Emory and Vice President Morgan Callaway of Emory wrote multi page letters of recommendation for Dr. Daniels' employment at the Board of Education in Savannah, Georgia, the Andrew Female College, and the office of Superintendent for the Principalship of the Anderson Street School in Montezuma, Georgia. He was accepted as superintendent for Montezuma Schools.
Dr. Daniels often gave lectures at the University of Georgia. This lecture was focused on the Problems of School Management in the Department of Education. The most pressing of these issues was the importance of community connection, recognizing limitations in authority, and separating personal from professional.
This photo is a photo of the student attending the Montezuma Institute in 1899. This was during Dr. Daniels' superintendency of Montezuma Schools in Macon, Georgia. Dr. Daniel is the only male of the staff and standing in the center of the covered porch.
This tape recording is a phone call interview by Mrs. Evelyn Smith Shumade of Mrs. Evelyn Daniel Cox, Roland B. Daniel’s daughter, in June of 1989. During this call Mrs. Cox details her memories with her father on vacation trips and his work in the school system.
Dr. Daniel, along with his daughter Mildred, attended the World Federation of Education Association in Geneva, Switzerland in 1935. This conference addressed the issues endangering world peace. Held at the World Court of the League of Nations, educators from around the world discussed how education would be the antithesis to propaganda in times of political uproar.
