Retirement and Involvement With The Community
Dr. Roland B. Daniel was a large contributor to the Midway Congressional Church, even more so after his retirement in 1933. The presbyterian faith had been a consistent factor in Dr. Daniels life from his childhood in Taylors Creek to his passing in Columbus.
Secretary of Defense George C. Marshall and Dr. Roland B. Daniel frequently wrote letters since their meeting through the Columbus Rotary Club. General Marshall invited Dr. Daniel to an honors ceremony at The Infantry School of Camp Benning in 1921. The letters thereafter speak of when they may meet, sending each other books, and plans to vacation together in Florida.
Dr. Roland B. Daniel served as the chairman of the Food Rationing Board during WWII. These ration books belong to His daughter Evelyn Cox, her husband Kyser Cox, and her children Anne and Margret Cox from 1944. The Series 4 War Ration Books contain a series of different colored slips with their own represented item. Red slips were meant for meats, Blue slips for processed food such as milk, eggs, bread, Green slips for canned foods, Coffee slips for coffee, and Spare slips for non-food items such as sewing string, paper, or similar materials.
