Columbus State University Archives and Special Collections

How are Archives Relevant?

You might be wondering how are Archives relevant? Archives have many uses for many different people; they are not just for historians after all. Scholars across many  disciplines rely on sources housed in Archives to inform their research. On the previous page you saw a list of sample items from our collections useful for introductory primary source analysis, but there is much, much more that the Archives has to offer. Other specific subject examples include finance and business, psychology, ecology and environmental science, cartography, foreign languages, social studies, religion, and much more.

Over the years, Archives staff have tried to compile subject listings for our collections. You can browse this list at: https://archives.columbusstate.edu/collection-subjects.php. Try to find an item or collection that connects to your area of study/discipline or just perhaps something that interests you. Please note, this is not a comprehensive listing of all our collections, and please understand this is only a general idea of how you might approach these materials. Many of these collections cover many subjects with infinite possibilities depending on how you approach them. It's up to researchers to draw their own conclusions and decide how best to use our collections.
