Before COVID-19, I lived in the dorms at Auburn, walked freely to all my classes, and dined in at restaurants freely. After COVID-19 restrictions were put in place, most of my classes became virtual and the ones that were in person, I had to wear a mask and had to social distance. It was difficult for me to listen and understand my professors while they wore masks. The online instruction was either live video or recorded videos, with no opportunity to ask questions. I discovered that I do not learn as well from online instruction. Since the dining rooms were closed, I had to order my food ahead online for takeout. We also noticed that some of the food items and household cleaning supplies were not available in stores or online. A few examples were chicken meat, Lysol, and toilet paper. Prior to COVID, my family and I had planned to travel to Okinawa, Japan to visit my mother’s family and enjoy a nice vacation on a tropical island. Due to travel restrictions, we had to cancel our flights and stay home. My great grandmother, who we wanted to visit, is 97 years old, and it is important to us to connect and spend time with our longest living family members. No, I have never experienced a pandemic before but the staying at home part is so familiar. Some of the happiest years of my life were the years I was a stay home wife and mother. This was many years ago. As a young military wife in Hawaii with two small children, I was home all day every day mostly. My husband came home for lunch every day so I did lunch and dinner almost every day. I collected cook books and learned to prepare gourmet dishes, in addition to regular fare. Learning to serve food in an attractive way for my small family and guests was gratifying and reminiscent of growing up on a farm in South Central Alabama with my Momma who loved to cook for her family and have guests stop by to share a meal Later I went into the work force and was no longer a stay at home wife and mother, but the happy times remained with me. Years later I started another family by having a late in life child. Having been a Real Estate Associate in my husband's company, I took time off to once again become a stay at home mom and mother. Again I prepared lunch daily for my husband (first husband I were divorced, so this was a second marriage). Once again I relished preparing dinners for family and friends. After a couple of years I returned to the work force. This Coronavirus has reminded me of those times. During this time I am back to preparing most of my meals as I live alone, testing out new recipes and commemorating those days in my daily journals and writings. Am able to stay in touch with family and friends via Facebook. With the exception of Facebook all of this seems like deja vu to me. She died in a car accident on March 2, 1956 while coming home from Macon, Georgia. Robert "Bob" Lee Gunnels is the older brother of Betty Gunnels. He was born January 9, 1903 in Tignall, Wilkes County, Georgia . He married Jane Branson Fox on February 12, 1947. They had no children. Bob retired as Executive of International Operations for the Coca-Cola Company in 1966, a job which required extensive travel to destinations such as Berlin, South Africa, and London. Robert Lee Gunnels died on January 20, 1985 and is buried at Riverdale Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia. Barbara Hunter Brown was born on February 16, 1931 in Columbus, Georgia and is the oldest daughter of Wright and Betty Brown. She is a 1948 graduate of Columbus High School and a 1952 graduate of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. She married first, Elliott Spear Waddell, Junior in 1956 and together have two children, Wright Brown Waddell and Elliott Spear Waddell, III. Elliott Waddell, Jr. passed away in 1977 and she married William Marion Page in 1985.
