Taken out of class and forced to be apart of an online format has made learning very difficult for me. I believe the classes I was taking this semester to have been my most important to carry me on with my major. But alas, not all is lost, I am going to apply for my masters of marketing at GSU and finish up in 2 years while attempting to find a digital marketing job to acquire more experience since all entry levels need experienced candidates in which I lack. Its too bad the career fairs I signed up for were all canceled. To sum of this story, life isn’t too bad and we all have to adapt to the future endeavors of this Pandemic. "Good," I think to myself, "if the governor of Georgia isn't going to make a mandate, at least the businesses are." I think it's a good idea, the science has shown it is a good idea, but I still felt an overwhelming anxiety going to Walmart today. How would people react? Would they fall in line? If not for the right reasons, at least because it is mandatory? As I walked up to Walmart on Victory Drive, I saw a young girl, probably in her early twenties, standing under a canopy. It was at least 95 degrees out, "What a miserable job" I thought to myself. I am not a confrontational person so with masks having become more of a political stance than a health protector, I worried how people would react to Walmart's new rule. As I looked around, I saw many people with masks coming and going from the store which eased my mind quite a bit. Suddenly, I hear an older man scream an expletive at that poor Walmart employee before storming off back into the parking lot, he didn't have a mask and wouldn't be allowed in the store. This was the reason for the anxiety. It wasn't directed toward me but my heart hurt for that employee. The anxiety I have been feeling stems from acknowledging that the issues surrounding Coronavirus are being mishandled by the media and politicians, why is the health of our most vulnerable citizens now political? Even here in Columbus, a city I have grown to adore, we are experiencing a harmful division, caused by a simple piece of cloth. The tensions in the community feel as if they're always about to boil over and today, in this short confrontation, it did. This shouldn't be a time of division it should be a time in which we come together as a community. These essential workers in our area are unfairly receiving the outbursts of frustration from customers. Not only is it not fair, it makes me not want to be in public, I am witnessing how truly awful people will treat each other because they themselves are anxious, stressed, and confused. Text Any textual data included in the document When the lockdowns of COVID-19 began, I was a server and bartender for a restaurant in downtown Columbus, Georgia. I remember being scared and concerned about my income, and for the income of my friends and coworkers. I was lucky because my husband is active-duty military and is considered essential, so he was going to keep receiving his pay no matter what. I remember the day Georgia went into a full lockdown. My husband and I were going on a walk at the golf course near our home, and I received a notification on my phone with news. We had been planning on doing our grocery shopping like usual after our walk, and we were worried that people were going to rush to the grocery stores and clear the shelves of necessary items. We calmly walked home, changed, and went to the grocery store not knowing what to expect. When we arrived it was fairly calm, it seemed we had missed the crowd. We picked up the very few items we needed (it’s just my husband, myself, and our two cats) and got to the check out line. I remember looking around and realizing just how crazy the situation at the grocery store had become in the short time we had been there. We wished the grocery clerks our best and told them we hoped that people treated them with kindness during this understandably difficult time and went home. During the lockdown, my husband and I spent a lot of time together taking (masked) walks, playing video games, and just enjoying each other’s company. The picture I’ve attached is of my husband before we took our first walk of lockdown. He’s in his gas mask and weighted vest from work. During our walk, I remember the folks playing golf loving his gas mask, and we put some smiles on people’s faces and got a few laughs, too. It was nice to hear laughter during that confusing time.
